诈骗分子声称免费算命，或者收取金额较低的算命咨询费用。当获取受害人初步信任后，诈骗分子会进一步“对症下药”，夸大宣传，连哄带吓，趁机兜售“转运”“消灾”等护身产品和做法事、立功德碑等付费项目，从而骗取大额钱财。很多人在得到不好的预测结果时，会抱着“宁可信其有也不信其无”的想法，多花一些钱，求一个安心免灾，而诈骗分子也正是拿捏了受害者的这种心理，把批发来的物件翻几十倍的价格卖给受害者。
